Registering the Property
With most ownership you have to register who the actual property belongs to such as cars and of course housing. In other words you have to make sure that once you have inherited the property that the creditors know it is now your responsibility, by registering it in your name.
In order to register the property you will need to seek the Land Registry and fill out the appropriate forms. Most often this method of registering property is to protect you is the property is sold or mortgaged so that you can prove the ownership. It also makes things easier when you are dealing with a sale or mortgage to make sure all dealings with the property are straight forward and legal.
When you do not register the property in your name and either sell it ten years down the road or someone else inherits it issues can arise as to the actual ownership. This means that the property may have to undergo several court proceedings to determine ownership with the proper documentations before anything can be done with it after several years have passed. This is why it is very important that the property be registered in the new owners name even if you are selling it.
